- Thesis The history of the library of the Brunei government was to convert it into a general library, one that was service to the public. There was a searching need for knowledge that had been based upon the experiences of the old days of the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. In Brunei, it is an obligation for the Brunei Government to encourage the people to read. To achieve that objective, the first public library to be established was at the Brunei Museum. It was intended that the collection to be housed there, and therefore there was a very large collection of books in the Brunei Museum Library. It was the first Brunei Library to be established in 1968 under the leadership of Missed books. The Chief Librarian, Dato Major Toh Hang Lay, had established the Brunei Library as one of the branches of the National Library in Singapore. Later on, it was expanded to include Brunei Museum Library. This led to the formation of the Directorate of Public Libraries and Performing Arts in 1992. This was at the same time, when the new library was established. It was housed in a new building. The Brunei government has a long history of having a public library. There are a number of improvements on the Brunei Public Library services offered by the library. The use of microcomputer has been introduced in the Brunei Library. With the use of this technology, the library can make use of more efficient and attractive services for patrons. To help our patrons, the library provides various computer services. There are a lot of technical problems that can be encountered during the work of the library. One of the problems that has been observed at Brunei Public Library is with the response to the requests for donation. The Brunei Library has very strict guidelines for the management of collections. Whenever there is a request for a book or material to be donated, a request must be made in writing. The guidelines also do not allow for the donations of materials that were once
